Profile

Dr. Catherine M. Lewis is a Professor of History, Director of the Museum of History and Holocaust Education, and Assistant Vice President of Museums, Archives & Rare Books. She received her B.A. with honors in English and History at Emory University and M.A. and Ph.D. in American Studies at the University of Iowa. She is the author, co-editor, or co-author of 12 books, including the forthcoming Memories of the Mansion: The Story of the Georgia Governor's Mansion with co-authors First Lady Sandra Deal and Dr. Jennifer Dickey (published by UGA Press in the fall of 2015)

Dr. Lewis's research interests are varied and include World War II and the Holocaust, Public History, sport history, African-American history, and women’s history. In addition to her publications, she has curated or coordinated more than 40 exhibitions for a variety of organizations, including the Atlanta History Center, Augusta National Golf Club, Delta Airlines, Ponce City Market, and the United Way. She is currently serving her second term as president of the Georgia Association of Museums and Galleries.

Dr. Lewis regularly presents at national and international conferences and has helped bring numerous grants to Kennesaw State University, including a Museums Connect grant from the U.S. State Department and the American Alliance of Museums in partnership with a museum in Morocco, a National Trust for Historic Preservation grant in support of Oakland Cemetery, and several Marcus Foundation grants in support of the Museum of History and Holocaust Education.
