Dr. Elsa Nystrom received her PhD from Loyola University of Chicago. Her areas of specialization are US social and cultural history, colonial US, as well as modern Europe and the European Union. She is the Campus Representative for the European Union Studies Certificate Program and a member of the EUSC Executive Committee. In the last year, she has also taught classes for the AMST Program on Sport and Comics History.

Her research interest have morphed from newspaper comic strips to auto racing and she is currently working on a book about why Americans love to go fast and the early days of auto racing as well as a brief book on the first successful female auto racer in the U.S.
