Ugena Whitlock is Associate Professor of Curriculum & Instruction and Gender & Women’s Studies. She came to KSU in 2005 after earning her doctorate at LSU. Courses she regularly teaches in ISD's Gender & Women's Studies and American Studies Programs include Queer Theory & Sexualities and Gender & Pop Culture.

She is the author of This Corner of Canaan: Curriculum Studies of Place and the Reconstruction of the South and editor of Queer South Rising: Voices of a Contested Place. Her research explores reconstructing self and society, drawing from her experiences growing up in a working-class, fundamentalist Christian family in the South.
